Last week was homecoming and there was a lot going on for the football team. Come homecoming weekend there’s a lot of added pressure because you’re on your home field and everybody has all the school spirit and energy flowing through them. You don’t want to let your school down, or your team down by giving up an easy win.
All week the football team had to prepare and pay careful attention to what the opponents were going to do. The opponents that we had gone up against were the Blackfoot Broncos. In order to get the win, we had to practice and stay focused during practice. Every week we say it’s not going to be an easy game so we have to practice and go 100 percent every day.
Monday practice is always hard to get back into the rhythm of things, after the weekend and having the last game the previous Friday. Everyone is a little slow because of injuries or they slept for the entire weekend. We had to cover basics and go back to fundamentals starting last week so there were no mental mistakes.
Tuesday and Wednesday practice, we had to cover the schemes and formations that Blackfoot was going to run. We had to practice running their defense and offense which is hard to do when you’re not used to running anything of what they do. Thursday practice was just a basic run through of who’s doing what at what position at anytime on the field.
Friday is game day and you’re people are thinking about the game and hope that perform you play well and what you practiced translates out onto the field. From the first kickoff, Madison received went down the field and scored. The defense for Madison struggled to hold Blackfoot for two drives. At one point in the game, Madison trailed the Broncos 14-7. At the end of the game Madisons defense was able to get some stops, and also get a fumble recovery and an interception. Madison came out victorious 31-20.
